Then try out the BMX -Kiwi Sprocket Rocket Programme.This is run by BMX clubs and is all about learning some seriously cool, fun biking skills. Its all about participation and skill development and is taught by qualified coaches over 24 sessions. It will help you with off road skills and focuses on basic to advance biking skills.

 

 

What is the Kiwi Sprocket Rocket Programme?

It originally targets children aged 7 years and under but any age can give it a go. This programmeis based on a modified version of BMX and teacheskids fundamental biking skills that specifically cater to childrens size and skill level. If you want to you can go on to compete in BMX otherwise it will help you get over and around roots, ruts, stones, boulders, tight corners, and off course up and down slopes and 'get air'!

How was Kiwi Sprocket Rocket Developed?

Sprocket Rocket was originally developed by BMX NSW in 1994 as a competition based programme and later expanded as a very successful skill development programme by Bicycle Motocross Australia. In 2004 BMX New Zealand further adapted the programme and it was successfully introduced nationally in 2005.

  • More specifically the program aims at providing:-
    Fundamental biking skills
    Safe and Fun learning environment
    24 progressive sessions
    Qualified coaches at every session
    Promotion of participation and skill development rather than a win-at-all costs culture
    Skills required to go on to compete in competitive biking
    The programme concentrates on four specific fundamental skills areas including pedalling, balance, braking and corning. These skills are fundamental for all biking activities regardless of the participants age.

The Kiwi Sprocket Rocket programme consists of 24 progressive sessions that teach skills through a series of fun drills and skills that children just love.

When your child registers they will receive The Kiwi Sprocket Rocket Kit:-

  • Each child registered receives a Kiwi Sprocket Participation and Skill Log Book, an interactive resource to record their personal progress. All children receive a cool Kiwi Sprocket Rocket Number Plate which can be displayed proudly on their bikes.
